"The Gospel"
At Gateway Rescue Mission, we see daily the reality of Proverbs
23:7, "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." However, we know
that, with God, all things are possible, so we share the life-changing
message of a new life in Christ. Man is limited in his ability to
lend assistance to his fellow man. We can change a
man's diet, his clothes, his surroundings, his social and economic
statue, but we are helpless to change his heart.
Everyone who comes to our haven of rest receives the Good
News of Jesus Christ. Regardless of how much we may do for an
individual, how much time and money we may spend on him, we will
have utterly failed him if we neglect to emphasize the absolute
necessity of a right relationship with God through a saving
knowledge of Jesus
Christ.
"Family Assistance"
Through the generosity of churches, businesses and
individuals, many items are donated to the Gateway Rescue Mission to
help meet the needs of the needy in the Greater Jackson
community. Each year, hundreds of families are given boxes of
groceries. In addition to the food packages, we are able to
help a few families with utility bills, furniture, appliances and
clothing.
As with the transient who may come our way, a demonstration
of biblical caring opens the door for evangelization. The Scriptures
tell us that "faith without works is dead." When the committed staff
of Gateway Rescue Mission lives the faith that is being offered, many are
then led to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
In addition to meeting the individual needs of families, tragedy
will strike a family and they may lose their house because of natural
disaster or fire. Gateway Rescue Mission has had the privilege to
restore entire households with goods that were donated. It takes a
great deal of inventory to meet such a need, but by operating two stores,
one in Pearl and the other in Magee, items can be kept for such a
need. At the same time, there are families who really don't want a
"handout" but are willing to pay something for clothing for their
children. All revenues received at these two stores, as a result of
a sale, are then turned around and reinvested in the
ministry.
