Greetings from Downtown
Jackson!
Gateway Rescue Mission
has been in ministry in the downtown area of Jackson, Mississippi since
1948. In our effort to reach the whole man, we begin by trying to relieve
his or her physical misery. We endeavor to show the individual the love of
God before we tell him of the love of God. A good hot meal to relieve
hunger, a hot shower, clean clothes to make one comfortable again and
shelter from the elements prepares the ground for the planting of the seed
of life.
The size and
scope of our ministry has grown through the years. From the night-time
shelter and supper in 1948, to now feeding 150,000 meals a year; providing
lodging for over 50,000; and assisting over 4,000 families a year with
food, clothing, or furniture.
In
times of disaster, Gateway Rescue Mission has literally refurbished
households that have been destroyed as a result of weather or
fire.
Yet,
despite all of this material help, at Gateway Rescue Mission, we see daily
the reality of Proverbs 23:7, “For as he thinks in his heart, so he is.”
We know that, with God, all things are possible, so we share the
life-changing message of a new life in Jesus Christ. Man is limited in his
ability to lend assistance to his fellow man. We can change a man’s diet,
his clothes, his surroundings, his social and economic status, but we are
hopeless to change the heart. Everyone who comes to our haven of rest
receives the Good News of Jesus Christ. Regardless of how much we may do
for an individual, how much time and money we may spend on him, we will
have utterly failed him if we neglect to emphasize the absolute necessity
of a right relationship with God through a saving knowledge of Jesus
Christ.
As you view
this web page, we hope that you will sense that the Gospel stands
preeminent in our ministry. We operate by faith and receive no federal,
state, city or United Way funds. One hundred percent of our support comes
from free-will donations.
If you
are looking for a ministry that is committed to the Lord Jesus Christ,
then Gateway Rescue Mission is that ministry.
Thank you,
for visiting with us. My prayer is that you will receive a blessing while
going through this site and that our Lord will be glorified at the same
time.
